Foundation and waterproofing work in Milwaukee
Milwaukee has more pre-1950 houses than anywhere else in the state, and a lot of them still sit on the walls they were built with. Bungalows on concrete block, Milwaukee duplexes on brick, older homes on fieldstone laid up with lime mortar. Those walls have been through a century of frost and soggy clay, and it shows. Mortar turns sandy, block cracks along the joints, and a wall that stood plumb for decades starts leaning toward the furnace. When a heavy storm overloads the sewers, water finds every one of those weak spots at once.
Our crew has worked in Milwaukee basements since 1998, and old walls are most of what we see. We start with structure: sealing cracks, carbon fiber straps or steel beams when a wall has moved. Then we deal with the water, with interior drain tile and a sump pump with battery backup, exterior waterproofing where the yard allows it, or sealing and a vapor barrier for damp walls. We also cut egress windows so a lower level can become a legal bedroom. When City of Milwaukee permitting requires a permit, we pull it.
