Typical Prices

What each fix typically costs

Installed prices for Waukesha County and Milwaukee-area homes, labor and materials included. Each service links to how the work is done.

ProjectTypical installed priceWhat it covers and what moves it
Interior drain tile + sump pump$40–$120 / linear ftIn Wisconsin, one wall typically runs $2,500–$4,500 and a full basement perimeter (about 120–160 ft) $8,000–$12,000. The tile carries water to a sump crock and pump.
New sump pump and crock$800–$2,500Replacing a pump in an existing crock: $350–$1,000. Adding a battery backup pump: about $500–$1,500.
Exterior waterproofing$8,000–$20,000 / jobExcavation to the footing, membrane, drainage board, new weeping tile and backfill. The digging is most of the cost, about $50–$200 per cubic yard of soil.
Interior waterproofing (wall sealing + vapor barrier)$1,500–$4,000For damp walls and light seepage. Add a sump pump and crock if the basement doesn't have one.
Foundation crack repair$300–$1,000 / crackSealed or injected from inside. A crack that keeps opening means the wall is moving and needs bracing.
Carbon fiber wall reinforcement$4,000–$12,000For walls that have only started to bow. Cost guides price a set of about 12 straps in this range; a Wisconsin guide lists $400–$800 per strap.
Steel I-beam wall bracing$4,000–$12,000 / wallFor walls that have moved further. The wall's length, the number of beams and how far it has moved set the price.
Egress window$2,500–$5,500 / windowBelow grade, with the opening cut into the foundation, the window, the well and drainage.
Structural engineer's report$300–$1,000Optional on most jobs. Worth having for a home sale or a wall that has moved a lot.

Typical ranges as of October 2026 from published cost guides: AskDoss's Wisconsin basement waterproofing guide (March 2026), Fixr (waterproofing, drains, sump pumps, foundations, egress; 2025–2026), This Old House (waterproofing, foundations, egress, sump pumps; 2026) and Today's Homeowner (bowing walls, egress; 2025). Use them for planning: they are not quotes or our price list, and your written quote after the inspection (if qualified) is the number that counts.

What Moves The Price

Six things that decide what your job costs

How much wall needs work

Feet of drain tile, how many walls get dug out and how many straps or beams a wall needs drive most of the price. One wall costs far less than a full perimeter.

Inside or outside

Interior systems go in from the basement. Exterior waterproofing means digging to the footing, so it costs more and depends on what is in the way: decks, steps, driveways and landscaping.

How far a wall has moved

A crack that only leaks can be sealed. A wall that has started to bow takes carbon fiber or steel, and a wall that has moved too far to brace costs the most to fix.

Finished space

Drywall, trim and flooring along the walls being worked on have to come off and go back, and that labor adds to the price.

The sump setup

An existing crock keeps the cost down. A new crock cut into the floor, a battery backup pump and a long discharge line add to it.

Walls, depth and permits

Block and poured walls fail differently and get fixed differently. Deeper basements mean more digging outside, and some jobs need a municipal permit.

Questions, Answered

Questions about cost

No. They are typical installed ranges from Wisconsin and national cost guides, updated October 2026, so you know what to expect before anyone comes out. Your price comes from a written quote after the inspection (if qualified), based on your walls, your water and your access.
Because the scope varies. Compare how many feet of drain tile each quote includes, whether it has a new sump crock, pump and battery backup, where the water discharges, what happens to finished walls and floors, and what the warranty covers. Who does the work matters too.
Interior is usually cheaper. This Old House's 2026 figures put interior methods at about $3,000 on average and exterior at about $7,000 or more, and a typical exterior job in Wisconsin runs $8,000–$20,000 because of the digging. Exterior work stops water at the outside of the wall, so it can be worth the cost when the inspection points to it.
Not always. Wisconsin cost data puts one wall at $2,500–$4,500, two walls at $4,500–$7,000, three walls at $6,500–$9,500 and a full perimeter at $8,000–$12,000. Where the water comes in decides how much you need.
Swapping a pump in an existing crock typically runs $350–$1,000. A new pump with a new crock cut into the floor runs $800–$2,500, and adding a battery backup pump runs about $500–$1,500.
Sealing or injecting a single crack typically runs $300–$1,000. A crack that keeps opening usually means the wall is moving, and bracing it with carbon fiber or steel runs $4,000–$12,000. Measuring the crack tells you which one you're dealing with.
Usually. Drywall, trim and flooring along the walls being worked on have to come off and go back, and that work adds to the price. We'll show you how much has to come off before work starts.
