Exterior Waterproofing for Milwaukee homes
A lot of Milwaukee houses were standing long before anyone thought about waterproofing a basement. Bungalows, Milwaukee duplexes and old brick homes sit on block, brick and fieldstone walls that have taken a century of freeze and thaw. Mortar gets soft, the original clay tile at the footing silts up, and a heavy summer storm finds every weak joint at once. Exterior waterproofing goes after that water where it starts. We dig along the wall down to the footing, scrape and clean the face, and repair loose mortar, cracks and missing pieces before anything gets coated. Then a liquid membrane goes on, dimple board covers it, and new weeping tile is laid at the footing in washed gravel. The backfill is graded so surface water runs away from the house. On an old stone or brick wall, that prep work is most of the job, and we take our time on it.
Milwaukee lots are often narrow, with a walk on one side and a neighbor's driveway on the other, so we plan the dig carefully and protect what we can.
