Milwaukee has more pre-1950 basements than anywhere else in the state, and a lot of them were never built to stay dry. That seam is where interior drain tile does its work. We cut a narrow trench in the slab along the perimeter, lay perforated pipe in washed stone, and slope it to a sump crock. Water that pushes up under the floor or runs down the inside of an old stone wall drops into the pipe and gets pumped out, well before it spreads across the floor. A battery backup keeps the pump going when the storm knocks the power out, which in this city is exactly when you need it most.
Everything happens from inside the basement, so there's no digging next to a neighbor's driveway or tearing up a narrow city side yard.
