Interior Drain Tile for North Prairie homes
North Prairie is a village of mostly single-family homes near the Kettle Moraine State Forest, and a lot of them went up in newer subdivisions. The ground under those streets is flat prairie. Flat ground looks easy, but water has nowhere to run off to, so after snowmelt or a long rain it simply sits and soaks into the clay around your basement. The sump pump in many North Prairie homes runs harder than owners ever expected.
Newer houses here usually have poured concrete walls. As poured concrete cures, it shrinks a little, and thin vertical shrinkage cracks are common. Most are harmless on their own, but with wet clay pushing on the other side, water finds them. It also finds the joint at the bottom of the wall. Some newer homes have builder drain tile, and some have only a sump pit. A full perimeter system gives every wall a direct path to the pump.
