Wales is a small village on the edge of the Kettle Moraine, between Genesee and Delafield, and many of its homes sit up on high ground or along the slopes. People are sometimes surprised to find water in a basement on a hill. The reason is what's under the topsoil. A few feet down, dense glacial clay holds water, and every spring the groundwater rises through the hillside and surfaces wherever it can.
In Wales that often means a basement wall. Water moves sideways through the ground above the clay, meets the foundation, and gathers along the footing until the pressure pushes it through the joint where the floor meets the wall. Some homes see it only for a few weeks each spring. Others get a wet floor after every heavy storm. Interior drain tile catches that water right at the footing line and carries it to a sump crock, where a pump with battery backup sends it out.
Everything happens from inside, so your slope, retaining walls and landscaping are left alone. The crew cuts the slab along the walls, trenches, sets the pipe in washed gravel and pours the floor back, usually over a few days. Our shop is in Waukesha, a short drive away.
