Exterior Waterproofing for Wales homes
Wales is a small village on the edge of the Kettle Moraine, between Genesee and Delafield, and much of it sits on high ground and hillsides. You might think a house on a hill would stay dry. Under the topsoil here, though, there's dense glacial clay, and water can't soak through it fast. It spreads sideways along the top of the clay, and in spring the groundwater rises and surfaces in places it never showed up in summer. A basement wall in the way catches all of it.
That's why some Wales homeowners see water in the basement only in March and April, then nothing for months. It's easy to shrug off. Each spring, though, the wet clay pushes on the wall, frost widens the cracks, and the seepage comes back a little heavier. Exterior waterproofing stops that cycle at the wall. With the ground opened to the footing, we can see exactly where the water has been getting in.
The work goes wall by wall. We clean and repair the foundation, seal it with a liquid waterproof membrane, and cover it with dimple board so water drops straight to the footing. There, new weeping tile in washed gravel carries it off, and the backfill is graded to shed water downhill. On a slope, the uphill side usually needs the most attention.
