Foundation Repair for Lisbon homes
Lisbon used to be mostly fields, and a good share of it still is. Over the years, farmland around Sussex has turned into subdivisions with poured concrete basements, while older farmhouses on rural lots kept their original cellars. That leaves Lisbon with two very different sets of foundations on the same ground. The ground is glacial clay, and when builders graded and compacted it for new streets and yards, they changed how water moves across it and through it.
In the newer subdivisions, the trouble we find is usually a crack in a poured wall where graded clay settles or holds water against the foundation after a storm. Backfill around a newer house can take years to settle, and a yard that slowly tips toward the house sends runoff right at the wall. Out on the rural lots, an older farmhouse cellar may have fieldstone or early block walls with open joints, uneven sections, and many decades of frost behind them.
Both kinds of basement start the same way with us: someone walks every wall, measures any bowing, and finds where the pressure comes from. Poured wall cracks get injected with structural sealant or packed with hydraulic cement. Walls that are leaning get carbon fiber straps or steel I-beams anchored at the floor and joists. Structural work comes first, and waterproofing goes on a stable wall. When Lisbon's building inspection office requires a permit, we pull it.
