Foundation and waterproofing work in Lisbon
A lot of Lisbon was farmland not long ago, and you can still read that history in its basements. Newer subdivisions went in on graded clay, with poured walls and sump crocks that sometimes run more than the builder expected. Out on the rural lots, older farmhouses sit on fieldstone-era cellars or early block, some with additions tacked on over the years. When a field gets graded for houses, the clay underneath is often disturbed and packs back unevenly, so water finds its way to foundations that are still young.
In a newer Lisbon home, the usual fix is sealing a leaking poured-wall crack or adding interior drain tile and a better sump with battery backup. In a farmhouse, we might repoint and seal a stone cellar, brace a bowing block wall with carbon fiber or steel, or set steel support beams under a tired floor. Exterior waterproofing, interior sealing with a vapor barrier and egress windows round out what we do. When Lisbon's building inspection office requires a permit, we pull it.
