Interior Drain Tile for Lisbon homes
Lisbon used to be mostly farmland, and in a lot of places you can still tell. Newer subdivisions sit on fields that were graded flat for houses, with poured basements set into heavy clay. Out on the rural lots, older farmhouses still stand over cellars that were built long before anyone thought about drain tile. Both kinds of basements get wet in Lisbon, and they get wet for different reasons.
In the subdivisions, graded clay drains slowly. After a big storm or a fast spring melt, water sits against the foundation and pushes up under the slab until it finds the joint along the wall. In the old farmhouse cellars, stone or early block walls let water in through the joints, and sometimes the floor itself is thin or patched. Interior drain tile works for both: a trench along the inside of the footing, perforated pipe in washed stone, and a sump that carries the water out.
We plan each Lisbon job around what's there. A new poured basement usually needs clean saw cuts, a tidy trench and a crock placed out of the way of future finishing.
