Foundation Repair for Merton homes
Merton grew up along the Bark River, with a small historic village center and newer subdivisions spreading out toward North Lake and Pine Lake. That setting is lovely to live in and hard on basements. The water table here rises high in spring, when snowmelt and rain fill the river and soak the clay around every foundation in the village. Wet clay swells and pushes sideways, and groundwater presses up from below at the same time.
We see that pressure in two places. On the walls, it shows up as cracks, damp patches after a thaw, and in block basements a slow inward bow. At the base, hydrostatic pressure forces water through the joint where the wall meets the floor. Homes near the older village center have had more decades of this, while the newer subdivisions on the edge of town tend to show their first cracks in poured walls within a few seasons of being built.
Our job is to sort out which of those is going on in your house. We measure the wall for movement, seal cracks with hydraulic cement or structural sealant, and brace moving walls with carbon fiber straps or steel I-beams. If water is the bigger issue, we tell you, because structural repair and waterproofing are separate fixes and the wall needs to be stable first. When the Village of Merton requires a permit, we pull it.
