Exterior Waterproofing for Brown Deer homes
Brown Deer grew fast after the war, and a lot of its ranches and split-levels went up on concrete block basements that are now fifty to seventy years old. Block is hollow, so water that gets through a joint can sit inside the cores and seep out low on the wall. The original drain tile, where there was any, is usually tired. Split-level homes add a twist: the lower level is only partly below grade, and it tends to seep right where the soil meets the siding.
Exterior waterproofing handles block walls well because it stops water before it reaches those hollow cores. We dig down to the footing, clean the block, fill cracks and open joints, and apply a liquid membrane. Dimple board goes over the membrane, new weeping tile goes in at the footing with washed gravel around it, and we backfill with a grade that pushes surface water away. On a split-level we pay extra attention to the transition where the lower level wall rises above grade.
