Exterior Waterproofing for Lannon homes
Lannon gave its name to the stone. The quarries here cut the tan limestone you see on house fronts, chimneys and garden walls all over southeast Wisconsin, and plenty of homes in the village use it too. Some older Lannon houses sit on stone or block foundations laid by hand, with mortar joints that have been taking in water for generations. When a basement here gets wet, the joints are usually where it starts.
Stone and block both breathe water. Rain and snowmelt soak the clay against the wall, and the water finds every joint and pocket. Retaining walls made of Lannon stone can also steer runoff toward the house when they sit uphill of it, so we look at the whole slope. Exterior waterproofing handles this from the outside, which suits these foundations well. Digging down to the footing also lets us see how the old wall is really holding up.
Our crew digs to the footing, cleans the wall, and repairs loose joints and cracked block before anything else goes on. Then comes a liquid waterproof membrane, dimple board to hold water off the wall, new weeping tile at the footing, washed gravel, and backfill graded away from the house.
