Greenfield filled in fast after the war, and the houses show it: rows of ranches and Cape Cods from the 1950s and 60s, most of them sitting on concrete block basements. Block was quick to lay and it held up well for decades. Seventy-odd winters later, a lot of those walls in Greenfield are showing their age in the same few ways, and we know those patterns well.
The classic one is a stair-step crack climbing along the mortar joints, usually near a corner or under a window.
